I am a proponent of the inductive approach. Allowing and encouraging students to be actors in their learning helps them assimilate concepts more quickly.
I just introduced passé composé to my FR100 class, and students learned the use and formation of it through the practice of the language in context and then later realized the rules from the practical examples.
